How do you prevent hair loss in babies?

I have a 5 week old son and would like to know if there is anyway of preventing him from developing those rather unsightly bald patches that so many babies seem to develop. I try to make sure that he gets plenty of 'tummy time' every day but he still seems to be getting a bit bald.

All hints and tips will be greatly appreciated. How do you prevent hair loss in babies?
It really is hard to do. They rub it off in their carseats, when they sleep and any time they are laying on their backs. Tummy time is the best way, and mayble letting him sit in a walker or something instead of a swing or bouncy chairHow do you prevent hair loss in babies?
thers nothing you can do about it for the moment, im a saturday boy working in a salon and i learnt that if you shave their head at a young age then when they are older they are more likely to a thick hair and less likley to get bald.

for the time being tho if you cant stand seeing your son like that then u could shave it off as it might look better, thats all i know so far:)
No way to really prevent it...unless you want to just shave him completely bald. You know that ';Back to Bed'; means he has to sleep on his back and babies like to rub their head, hence the hair loss. I live in China and it actually is a tradition to shave the babies bald at 1 month ';to help their hair come in';. I almost freaked out when my hubby did it to our little girl...but her hair is coming in thicker and it is cooler for her now. Plus it doesn't look as bad as you would think.
no my daughter was born with quite a bit of hair but all fell out because its baby hair and is replaced with stronger adult like hair. its finally coming back lol. maybe hold him for an extra hour or two is what i did and it seemed to help with it not coming out so fast.

the doctor explained it to me at my daughters 1 month check up so its kinda fuzzy
The more thay sit in prams and carseats can lead to this I found if mine were mostley put in a cot or moses basket or on a blanket on the floor the better it was, but most babies lose hair, but it soon grows back. hope this helps best of luck !
it will happen but dont worry it will grow back faster than you think. also if your son gets cradle cap you need to get rid of it to allow new hair to grow through, he will lose hair when your taking off the cradle cap but it will grow back.
you dont- it's usually due to the drop in hormones after birth. they will re-grow hair. my son was born witha ehad full of black hair ( which niether daddy or i haev) and it fell out - now at 13 months old he has a head full of blond hair and just got his first cut
My daughter was born with thick black elvis hair. By 5 months she was a patchy, almost completely bald red head, by 12 months she had very thick curly, light brown hair.

Its baby hair, they will shed it and you'll find it on his sheet. Its just a natural progression.
I don't think there is much you can do to prevent it entirely. Sounds like you are doing what is best by making sure he gets tummy time but since he needs to sleep on his back there probably will be some hair loss anyways.
hi

babies have to shed that hair it is natural

a piece of advice - let go a bit; you seem to be concerned with some things which are passing and irrelevant - concentrate on his well being and also your own, forget about these small things

good luck
it'll grow back. my son had a ';mohawk'; from the way his hair fell out and its the cutest thing. its gonna happen so embrace it. my son is 8 mos and his hair is growing back nicely.
There is nothing you can do. It grows back thicker and prettier anyway :) At least it did with both of my children.
Nothing to prevent it, just an excuse to buy some cute hats until it grows out of the ';head rubbing'; stage.
nothing you can do about it
No, it just happens I'm afraid! It soon grows back tho and I'm sure he couldn't care less, so why do you?
There is nothing for u to even deal with the problem, its normal for all babies~
Not that i know of. Dont worry though it will soon grow back!
