My cat is getting hair loss near his tail, should i be worried?

It looks like someone shaved him wit a machine but it is starting to spread. Could it be contagious and does any1 have any idea what it is?My cat is getting hair loss near his tail, should i be worried?
Okay, there are a couple of reasons your cat is losing its fur like that.

First, the cat could be chewing on itself because it is itchy due to allergic reaction to insect bite (fleas or some other biting insect). If this is the case, you need to apply a flea/tick repellant made for cats which you can purchase at your local petstore. Give your vet a call to find out what they recommend. The vet may also recommend giving your cat benedryl to stop the itching or a steroid shot.

Second, your cat could have a fungal infection which is causing the fur to fall out. The vet will need to take a scraping of the cat's skin (it doesn't hurt the cat) to see what you are dealing with.

Third, your cat could have an abcess at the base of its tail due to injury from a cat fight. The infection from the abcess causes the hair to fall out.

In either case, you need to take your cat to the vet to look over the cat's fur/skin and figure out what you need to do.

Your cat might actually being pulling it's fur out. I've saw both dogs and cats do it. I would look for fleas, because they cause itching and pain with biting and may lead to the cat pulling out it's hair. It might also be something else, so take your cat to the vet and have it checked. It's always better to be safe than sorry, and the safest bet is to have an experienced person look at it. I hope everything works out.
Well its most likely flees. If it is indeed flees: if you look closely at your cats skin you will most likely see black dots which are flee poop, then looking around more, you'll see the little buggers. If you do see them go to a vet and they'll give you flee stuff, you could also go to a pet store but i never tried pet stores supplies oh, and if your cat developes a rash, well then your cats allergic to the flees which is 10 times worse for the cat.

But it could also be stress too, or something more serious. But the safest bet is to go to the vet and get it checked out. =]
Hi, it could possibly be a nervous condition. Is your cat upset about something. Or is he near a lot of chemicals/lawn sprays, etc.
probably a rash from parasites..fleas, etc. get meds. it will get worse if not taken care of.
