How do i conceal hair loss after chemo?
i am 15 and was recently diagnosed with APL. after my first course of chemo, all my hair fell out. it didnt really bother me then, because i was just at the hospital, but next week i am going back to school, and i am quite worried about it. i dont really want to wear a wig- i tried one in hospital and it is really scratchy.
does anyone have any tips on how i can conceal it quite subtely. i know that i will not be able to really hide it from people, but its more for me.
thank you.How do i conceal hair loss after chemo?
I came to work every day after I lost my hair after chemo.
I wore bandanas (tied like a pirate scarf ... argggghh), and soft knit caps. Never did the wig thing. How do i conceal hair loss after chemo?
Honestly there are not a lot of ways to conceal your hair loss effectively since you have lost all your hair. The only options that you have is to wear a cap, scarf or a wig.
There are a lot of wigs that you can wear that can help prevent itchiness. You can put on a head cap before you put on the wig to reduce the itchiness and sweat.
i know how tough it must be for you, i am on my 7th chemo lost all my hair after the first, i had long naturally curly blonde hair, and what can i say, it hurt losing it,but i got wigs and yes their not comfortable, so i cut them up and hand sewed them into hats, just enough around the back and sides for show, and tied back in a pony tail, you`d be amazed how many people tell me i am lucky i didn`t lose my hair (ha ha) then i tell them and they are gobsmacked. but i also wear caps without wigs an go g.i. jane too, it`s not something to be ashamed of, and people really are understanding about it. good luck
Why do you want to conceal it? Wear a really loud, silly wig, or just shave whatever fluff you have left and polish your head to a fine sheen! If (when) someone stares, just say ';What? You never saw a cancer patient before? What rock have YOU been living under?';.
Cancer (and chemo) are facts of life; by not ';pretending it never happened';, you will be helping whatever poor sap gets the next cancer diagnosis....
Have you been on website for Look Good, Feel Better? They help with this problem.
Also some cancer charities have good ideas - so try a trawl through the net.
And as other suggest, a bandanna can look very cool and ';film starrish';!
You could also see if there are hairdressers near you that might re-cut and re-shape a wig - and tell you what you can do so it doesn't scratch you. Wigs given to chemo patients are often not well thought out, but the celebrity hairdresser Charles Worthington in London is a great supporter of Look Good, Feel Better - so you might Google his site and see what he suggests.
Best of luck, and your question has prompted me to put up something on wigs on www.after-cancer.com

awe sorry to hear about your cancer! The only thing I can think of is buying cute bandanna's from walmart. I love wearing them due to my hair growing out just from being short in length. I could never imagine wearing a wig just for the fact of them being all scratchy and looking bad. Yea...I would say bandanna's or cute hats if your school will let you. You can always ask the school board and see if they make an exception for your case. good luck!
they have wigs that are more natural and don't bother you as much - they are made out of real hair normally.
Also, wear pretty scarves or hats - here are some ideas on this website.

Last one tells how to tie them.
I think you should have your mom or dad talk to the school to see if you can wear a bandanna. That way you can have a lot of cute ones to match your different outfits. Good luck!
I hope you get better. I have had 5 memebers of my family go through chemo. Try wearing a hat that doesnt stand out too much. I wish you alll the best
